Free Fecal Water Syndrome (FFWS)
In free fecal water syndrome, free, often brown liquid is passed in addition to formed manure, soiling the tail and hindquarters. Causes are considered multifactorial and not yet scientifically settled; general condition is usually unaffected.

The focus is on stable feeding and husbandry management and changing the ration gradually; with weight loss, impaired general condition or true diarrhea, veterinary clarification is indicated to rule out other diseases.

- · stress and a low-ranking position in the herd
- · a discussed microbiome/dysbiosis component
- · roughage structure (e.g. late cut, a lot of straw)
- · dental/chewing problems as a possible factor (evidence inconsistent)
