In a population of 296 grey Lipizzaners melanoma was common and increased with age — typical of the grey-associated tumour tendency.

The Grey mutation (STX17 duplication) drives greying and is associated with increased melanoma and vitiligo risk; Grey homozygotes grey faster and show melanomas more often (dose effect).
