Muscle Fibre Tear / Strain (acute sports injury)

Image for the Performance & Sport category

Acute overstretching or a tear of muscle fibres, usually from sudden peak load, a misstep or insufficient warm-up. Unlike tying-up, the damage is locally confined; a correct diagnosis and controlled healing are decisive.

Veterinary care required

This condition belongs in veterinary diagnosis and treatment. Compounds are at most supportive.

Priority · vet & management

Veterinary clarification with ultrasound secures the diagnosis and extent. The core is controlled, step-by-step rehabilitation with rest and dosed load build-up per a veterinary plan — no premature full load.

Possible causes

  • · sudden peak load, slipping/misstep
  • · insufficient warm-up, cold musculature
  • · overload beyond the training level
  • · muscular imbalances/pre-fatigue

Supportive compounds · supplementary feed, not medication

Prevention

Always warm up thoroughly, adapt load to the training level, work on good ground and cool down actively after maximum load.

Equiterna's take

Equiterna clearly separates the local muscle-fibre tear from systemic tying-up: here an ultrasound-confirmed diagnosis and a patient, controlled rehabilitation count instead of a quick return to full work.
