Mechanism

Wiesenschwingel (Festuca pratensis) ist ein schmackhaftes, weichblaettriges Futtergras und regulaerer Heu-/Wiesenbestandteil. Der zentrale Sicherheitspunkt betrifft die Abgrenzung zum nah verwandten Rohrschwingel (Festuca arundinacea / Schedonorus arundinaceus): dieser ist haeufig mit dem Pilz-Endophyten Epichloe coenophiala besiedelt, der Ergopeptin-Alkaloide (v.a. Ergovalin) bildet. Diese sind vasoaktiv und wirken an equinen Gefaessen konstringierend (Klotz & McDowell 2017, J Anim Sci, PMID 29293720). Bei tragenden Stuten kann die Aufnahme endophyteninfizierten Rohrschwingels in den letzten Traechtigkeitswochen verlaengerte Traechtigkeit, Dystokie, Agalaktie/Dysgalaktie und dysmature Fohlen ausloesen (Evans & Romano 2024, Vet Clin North Am Equine Pract, PMID 38281896). Wiesenschwingel selbst gilt als unbedenklich; Ergotalkaloide koennen aber auch ueber Mutterkorn (Claviceps purpurea) in die Bluetenstaende von Graesern gelangen.

Cautions

  • · Verwechslungs-/Verunreinigungsgefahr mit endophyten-infiziertem Rohrschwingel (Festuca arundinacea) - Ergovalin-Risiko.
  • · Tragende Stuten: Fescue-Toxikose kann Traechtigkeit verlaengern und Milchbildung stoeren (verlaengerte Gestation, Agalaktie, dysmature Fohlen).
  • · Mutterkorn (Claviceps purpurea) in Grasaehren meiden - ebenfalls Ergotalkaloide.
