Mechanism

Wiesengraeser sind das natuerliche Grundfutter des Pferdes und liefern die fuer Kauaktivitaet und Hinterdarm-Fermentation noetige Struktur (Rohfaser); ihr fuetterungsphysiologischer Wert ist gut belegt. Der kritische Punkt ist der Gehalt an nicht-strukturgebundenen Kohlenhydraten (NSC: Einfachzucker, Staerke, Fruktan). Fruktan ist das Speicherkohlenhydrat der C3-Kaltzeitgraeser und kann in Weidegras >400 g/kg TM erreichen (Longland & Byrd 2006, J Nutr, PMID 16772510). NSC schwanken tages- und jahreszeitlich stark, gesteuert von Photosynthese und Temperatur: hohe Werte bei sonnigen, kalten Tagen (v.a. Frost bei Sonnenschein), am Nachmittag hoeher als frueh morgens, sowie in kurzem, gestresstem oder frisch nachwachsendem Gras (Kagan et al. 2022, Grass and Forage Science, DOI 10.1111/gfs.12633). Eine hohe NSC-Aufnahme ist mit weidebedingter Hufrehe und dem Equinen Metabolischen Syndrom assoziiert (Longland & Byrd 2006). Die botanische Zusammensetzung des Bestandes bestimmt Energiedichte und Eiweissgehalt mit.

Cautions

  • · Fruktan-/Zuckergehalt witterungsabhaengig: erhoehtes Rehe-/EMS-Risiko bei Frost mit Sonne, kurzem gestresstem Gras und Weide am Nachmittag.
  • · Fuer leichtfuttrige, uebergewichtige oder EMS-/PPID-Pferde Weidezugang begrenzen; Heu bei Unsicherheit analysieren lassen.
  • · Botanische Zusammensetzung schwankt; verunkrautete oder giftpflanzenhaltige Bestaende meiden.
