Mechanism

Leitsubstanz der Speicherwurzel ist das Iridoidglykosid Harpagosid neben Harpagid und Procumbid; diskutiert werden eine Hemmung der COX-2- und Lipoxygenase-Wege sowie eine Reduktion von TNF-alpha und weiteren proinflammatorischen Zytokinen. Beim Pferd liegen erstmals belastbare pharmakokinetische Daten vor: nach intragastraler Gabe eines standardisierten Harpagophytum-Extrakts (5 bzw. 10 mg/kg Harpagosid) war Harpagosid bereits 30 min spaeter im Plasma nachweisbar, Cmax nach 1 h, ohne klinisch erkennbare Nebenwirkungen (Axmann et al. 2019, J Vet Pharmacol Ther 42(1), PMC7379497, DOI 10.1111/jvp.12716). Die humane Evidenz zu Rueckenschmerz und Arthrose ist Gegenstand von Cochrane-/systematischen Reviews (Gagnier et al.), mit moderater Aussagekraft. Harpagosid ist FEI-relevant und als Controlled Medication (Klasse B) gelistet - im Turniersport dopingrelevant. Einordnung: traditionell im Kontext von Bewegungskomfort genutztes Ergaenzungsfuttermittel; keine Auslobung einer Arzneiwirkung.

· Kontraindiziert bei Magen-/Duodenalulzera (bitterstoffbedingt vermehrte Magensaeuresekretion moeglich)

· Vorsicht bei gleichzeitiger NSAID-Gabe und bei kardialer Vormedikation (Interaktionen theoretisch moeglich)
· Diabetes/Blutzucker: moegliche Beeinflussung - tieraerztliche Ruecksprache

How the Equiterna Score is built

The Equiterna Score combines three dimensions into a value of 0-100: science (40%), practical experience (30%) and safety (30%). It is transparently derived from evidence level, attributed sources (PubMed/journals), legal classification and cautions. The FEI doping status is shown separately as a competition-law note and does not enter the score. Commissions and vendor relationships have no influence on the score. In addition, the editorial safety rating caps the result: it limits the safety dimension and the overall tier (orange: at most solid). For entries rated red, no score is calculated at all. The rating never raises anything — a green rating does not lift a calculated value.
