Mechanism

Populus-Gewebe (Rinde, Knospen, Blätter) enthalten Salicin und Populin (Benzoylsalicin) sowie Flavonoide und Balsam-Harze (Übersicht: A review on the genus Populus, Phytochemistry Reviews 2021, DOI 10.1007/s11101-021-09772-2; Salicylat-/Flavonoidgehalte in Rinde und Blatt: Molecules 2022, PMC9229158). Salicin selbst ist inaktiv und wird erst durch Darmflora und Metabolismus zu Salicylsäure hydrolysiert, die aspirinähnlich (COX-Hemmung) wirkt. Beim Pferd ist Salicylsäure ein natürlicher Futterbestandteil, aber FEI-schwellenwertgeregelt (Controlled Medication; equine Pharmakokinetik und Schwellenwert-Bezug: Buntenkötter et al. 2017, DOI 10.1186/s12917-017-0955-1). Kontrollierte Wirksamkeitsstudien zum Pappel-Browsing beim Pferd fehlen; die Sicherheitsbewertung ist wegen Salicylat plus Balsam-Harzen zurückhaltender als bei reinen Blatt-Bäumen.

Cautions

  • · Salicin -> Salicylsäure: FEI-Schwellenwert (Plasma/Urin) - Karenz vor Turnier zwingend beachten.
  • · Balsam-Harze können bei empfindlichen Tieren Schleimhaut oder Magen-Darm reizen.
  • · Nicht mit weiteren Salicylat-Quellen (Weide, Mädesüß) kombinieren - Kumulation.
  • · Verwechslungssicher bestimmen (Abgrenzung zu Eibe, Bergahorn/Hypoglycin A, Robinie, Eiche).
