Mechanism

Montmorillonit ist das dioktaedrische Smektit-Tonmineral, das den Wirkkern von Bentonit und der humanmedizinischen Diosmectite (Smecta) bildet. In der EU wird es als Bentonit bewertet und ist als technologischer Zusatzstoff bzw. Aflatoxin-B1-Binder zugelassen (EFSA FEEDAP 2025, DOI 10.2903/j.efsa.2025.9553; DOI 10.2903/j.efsa.2025.9263). Fuer die adsorptive, schleimhautstabilisierende Wirkung bei akutem Durchfall gibt es kontrollierte Humandaten zu Diosmectite (PMC3132498), die aber nicht unmittelbar auf das Pferd uebertragbar sind; equine Studien ueber die Mykotoxin-Bindung hinaus sind duenn. Montmorillonit adsorbiert unspezifisch und bindet daher auch Naehrstoffe, Vitamine und Arzneistoffe.

Cautions

· Adsorbiert unspezifisch auch Medikamente, Vitamine, Spurenelemente und Entwurmer - immer zeitversetzt geben (mind. 1-2 h Abstand); bei Dauergabe Risiko von Mineral- und Wirkstoffmangel.
· Nur deklarierte Futtermittelqualitaet (Schwermetalle/Dioxin); Staub augen-/atemwegsreizend.
· Kein Ersatz fuer ursaechliche Behandlung; equine Belege ueber Mykotoxin-Bindung hinaus fehlen weitgehend.

How the Equiterna Score is built

The Equiterna Score combines three dimensions into a value of 0-100: science (40%), practical experience (30%) and safety (30%). It is transparently derived from evidence level, attributed sources (PubMed/journals), legal classification and cautions. The FEI doping status is shown separately as a competition-law note and does not enter the score. Commissions and vendor relationships have no influence on the score. In addition, the editorial safety rating caps the result: it limits the safety dimension and the overall tier (orange: at most solid). For entries rated red, no score is calculated at all. The rating never raises anything — a green rating does not lift a calculated value.
