Mechanism

Chaparral ist reich an dem Lignan Nordihydroguajaretsaeure (NDGA), einem starken Antioxidans (pharmakognostische Literatur). In der Humanpharmakovigilanz ist die Pflanze mit Faellen von Leberschaedigung bis Leberversagen assoziiert, weshalb in mehreren Laendern Warnungen bestehen. Equine Sicherheitsdaten fehlen; die innerliche Anwendung gilt als bedenklich.
