Mechanism

Die Frucht enthaelt reichlich hydrolysierbare Tannine und Polyphenole (Gallussaeure, Ethylgallat, Chebulagsaeure, Chebulinsaeure, Corilagin, Ellagsaeure, Arjunolsaeure) und ist damit den anderen Terminalia-Arten chemisch verwandt (systematischer Review Terminalia bellirica in health and disease, Phytomedicine 2020). In vitro und in Nagermodellen sind antioxidative, antiinflammatorische, hepatoprotektive, antidiabetische und lipidsenkende Effekte beschrieben; methanolische Blattextrakte zeigten im Modell hepatoprotektive und radikalfangende Aktivitaet (PMC6397638). Als Triphala-Bestandteil wird Bibhitaki ayurvedisch verdauungs- und atemwegsbezogen eingesetzt. Wie bei Haritaki ist die hohe Gerbstofflast sicherheitsbestimmend: adstringierend, bei hoher/dauerhafter Dosis antinutritiv und potenziell laxierend. Kontrollierte Wirksamkeits-, Sicherheits- oder PK-Studien beim Pferd fehlen vollstaendig; Einsatz als Ergaenzungsfuttermittel traditionell/extrapoliert, ohne therapeutischen Anspruch am Tier.
