Mechanism

Wirkbestimmend sind pentazyklische Triterpene, die Boswelliasaeuren, insbesondere 3-Acetyl-11-keto-beta-Boswelliasaeure (AKBA). AKBA ist ein spezifischer, nicht-redox-aktiver Hemmer der 5-Lipoxygenase (IC50 ~1,5 uM) und senkt so die Bildung proinflammatorischer Leukotriene (u.a. LTB4); zusaetzlich werden NF-kB-Signaling und TNF-alpha gehemmt (Siemoneit et al. 2009, PMID 19374837). Der Grossteil der entzuendungshemmenden und Arthrose-Evidenz stammt aus Humanstudien zu Boswellia serrata (Knie-OA-RCTs; Siddiqui 2011, PMID 22457547); B. sacra (arabischer Weihrauch) teilt die AKBA-Chemie, ist aber schwaecher separat untersucht. Fuer das Pferd gibt es einen konkreten Ansatzpunkt: eine 10-taegige Zufuetterung eines Kombipraeparats aus B. serrata, Verbascum thapsus und Curcuma longa senkte belastungsinduzierte Entzuendungsmarker bei Springpferden (Beghelli et al. 2023, Life, PMC10055707). Monopraeparat-Studien speziell mit B. sacra am Pferd fehlen jedoch weiterhin.

How the Equiterna Score is built

The Equiterna Score combines three dimensions into a value of 0-100: science (40%), practical experience (30%) and safety (30%). It is transparently derived from evidence level, attributed sources (PubMed/journals), legal classification and cautions. The FEI doping status is shown separately as a competition-law note and does not enter the score. Commissions and vendor relationships have no influence on the score. In addition, the editorial safety rating caps the result: it limits the safety dimension and the overall tier (orange: at most solid). For entries rated red, no score is calculated at all.
